Updated | By Silindelo Masikane
Deputy president, Cyril Ramaphosa says the country's leaders need to ask themselves whether they are following in Nelson Mandela's footsteps.
Speaking on the 3rd anniversary of Madiba's death, Ramaphosa called for unity as the country confronts its challenges.
Ramaphosa says while we have made progress since the dawn of democracy, we still have much work to do to heal the divisions of the past.
He admits government is aware of the sense of the sense of unease regarding recent developments in the political sphere.

"We cannot ignore the fault lines that appear to have emerged in our body politics. Nor can we ignore the fault lines that appear to have emerged in the movement - Madiba's movement - and in the broader alliance," Ramaphosa said.
He adds that these political developments is something that we should be concerened about because it affects South Africa's progress in creating a better society.
Ramaphosa says Madiba embodied so much of what we seek in a leader.
"Madiba was one of the most famous figures of the 20th century, he was humble and never arrogant. He had no sense of entitlement," Ramaphosa said.
