Ramaphosa moves to assuage fears over possible stage 8 load shedding
President Cyril Ramaphosa says he doesn't believe Eskom would ever need to implement stage 8 load shedding.
South Africans have been subjected to continuous load shedding over the past month as Eskom battles to keep the lights on amid a shortage of generation power.
The utility is also battling sabotage at some of its power stations.
On Friday, Eskom announced that it will implement stage 2 throughout the weekend ahead.
Ramaphosa made the remarks during a presidential community gathering imbizo in Carolina, Mpumalanga on Friday.
"It's a recurring problem with Eskom, as we hear more about sabotage is part of the challenges we have to deal with including the difficulties they are having in dealing with maintenance, breakages I don't really believe that we will go up to stage 8."
He says he still has confidence in Eskom management amid the electricity generation crisis.
"The management is doing everything that they can to ensure that they keep up with maintenance, we are still hopeful that we have management that got things under control. I think we will continue to have load shedding, but it will be a type of load shedding that they will warn everyone in advance as they try to keep lights on and the generation of electricity going on.”
