Ramaphosa pledges AU’s support for Palestinians

President Cyril Ramaphosa has pledged the continent’s support to the Palestinian people during his tenure as chairperson of the African Union (AU).
Ramaphosa, who takes over as the chairperson of the continental body, addressed AU delegates in Addis Ababa, Ethopia on Sunday.
The president was also elected as the new chairperson of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) Forum by the heads of states.

Ramaphosa says his tenure as AU chair will focus on attempts to alleviate the poor living conditions of the oppressed in Africa.
“Today we reaffirm our unwavering support and solidarity with the Palestinian people and their legitimate quest for an independent and sovereign state.
“With regards to the US-inspired plan for the Palestinians, as I listened to it and as I read everything that was written about it, it brought to mind the horrible history that we as South Africans have gone through.”
Ramaphosa also plans to declare 2020- 2030 the decade of women's financial inclusion.
