President Cyril Ramaphosa will on Friday appear before the South African Human Rights Commission hearings into the July unrest.
Presidency spokesperson Tyrone Seale says Ramaphosa will give testimony in regards to his responsibility as head of state.
"The Commission launched the investigative hearings to exercise its constitutional and statutory mandate in relation to the causes of the unrest as well as the impact of the unrest on human rights."
Last year's civil unrest has been described as the worst since the dawn of democracy in South Africa.
