Rand Water system under severe pressure, warns Tshwane mayor
Updated | By Martine van der Walt Ehlers
Tshwane Mayor Cilliers Brink has again urged resident to limit their water use.
The latest appeal came after water levels in the city's reservoirs dropped significantly on Saturday.
"Although we haven't received any formal communication from Rand Water, it is clear to us from dropping water levels, and lack of pressure to replenish reservoirs, but also from the experiences of other Rand Water supply areas, including the City of Johannesburg, that Rand Water's systems are under severe pressure," Brink said.
"Reasons could include the very high temperatures we have been experiencing, as well as possible system and maintenance issues at Rand Water, as we've seen over the past year.
"The most immediate message is that our consumers in Tshwane must please use water sparingly.
"Once the systems destabilise, and once the reservoirs drop below a certain level, it takes a lot of time to get water back into the system and to get those reservoirs full again so water can be restored to consumers."
