Rand Water warns of prolonged water outage in Joburg, Soweto, Randburg areas

Rand Water has warned of a planned 54-hour water outage in parts of Randburg, Johannesburg, Soweto and Southdale.

This while the county continues to battle continuous blackouts.
The two-day long water cut is planned for Monday.
Joburg Water spokesperson Eleanor Mavimbela says this is to allow Rand Water to do maintainance on its pipes.
“Rand Water our bulk water supplier will be working on their raw water pipe that supplies their Vereeniging water purification plant. As a result, the purification plant will not be operational on 15 November from 5 am for a period of 54 hours.
“This will, unfortunately, impact on water supply from the Rand Water Eikenhof pump station to the South of Johannesburg CBD, Northern and Western areas as supply will be reduced by 25%,” says Mavimbela.
Mavimbela says residents will be provided with water tankers.
“Water supply from the Rand Water Swaartkoppies system to the central CBD will be also reduced by 50%.
“Water supply reduction will result in poor to no water supply during peak water demand periods in most high laying and high demand areas. Stationary and roaming water tankers will be made available where feasible to reduce the impact to consumers.”
Areas affected include Roodepoort, Langlaagte, Soweto areas and the Johannesburg CBD.
