Repairs underway at fire-damaged Rosslyn substation
Updated | By Gaopalelwe Phalaetsile
Repair work is underway at the Rosslyn substation in Tshwane after a fire broke out earlier on Monday.
Areas without electricity include the Orchards, Amandasig, Karenpark, and Gomsand, parts of Soshanguve, and the Rosslyn industrial area.
Speaking at the site, Tshwane Mayor Randall Williams said they have assessed the damage.
"The fire at the substation has been extinguished and we were able to assess the damages. Fortunately for us, the Rosslyn substation is very well built because of the firewalls. Because of those walls, the fire has been contained in a very small area.
"Unfortunately for us, that part of the substation supplies electricity to small manufacturing companies that supply bigger companies such as BMW, and this obviously now disrupted their production," said Williams.
The city has vowed to inform residents of the progress in repairs from Monday evening.
