Reshall Jimmy's family rejects Ford's offer
Updated | By Suné du Toit
The family of Reshall Jimmy, who burnt to death in his Ford Kuga in December 2015, have rejected an offer Ford.
The offer was made by Ford SA CEO Jeff Nemeth.
Reshall's sister, Renisha Jimmy, says the family feels Nemeth led them on for two months thinking the matter would finally be settled, only to hear Ford now contends he was shot.
The family feels it is a ploy to avoid responsibility.
"How do you compensate someone's life to the value of a car? I thought it was so disrespectful to my family, a slap to both sides of our faces," says Jimmy.
An emotional Jimmy spoke about the impact it has had on the family.
Family lawyer Rod Montano says their post mortem revealed that Jimmy was not shot dead.
"The cause of death is noted as severe charring. Two specific aspects emanate from that. There are clearly no bullet or gunshot wounds detected, a large amount of soot was detected in the trachea, indicated that Reshall was alive during the fire," says Montano.
