Returning to negotiating table only way to resume Metrobus operations, says Demawusa
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Democratic Municipal and Allied Workers Union of South Africa (Demawusa) says Johannesburg Metrobus must restart negotiations with the union if it wants the reinstatement of bus services.
Bus drivers belonging to Demawusa down tools last week due to a wage dispute.
Workers are demanding an 18% salary wage increase.
The union’s general-secretary Stephen Faulkner says Metrobus should come to the negotiating table if they want buses to resume operations.

"You are not going to get buses on the streets of Johannesburg, either than by sitting down recognising Demawusa, acknowledging the demands which have been made and sitting in a proper manner and giving way in some of the demands.
"Many of the demands can be settled quickly without any expenditure that is going to upset the budget of Metrobus.
"Start behaving in a mature way, stop running to the courts and media with fake news. Look at the reality in the face, which is while Demawusa do not have their grievances addressed, there will be no buses on the streets of Johannesburg."
