Roads into Mamelodi remain closed
Solomon Mahlangu Drive and Waltloo Road leading into Mamelodi remained closed on Tuesday afternoon.
Some roads were blockaded by protesters, while others were closed off by metro police for safety reasons.
No vehicles could enter the township, east of Pretoria.
Police have been deployed across the township.
Protests flared up in various parts of the city in reaction to the ANC's decision to replace current mayor Kgosientso 'Sputla' Ramakgopa with former cabinet minister Thoko Didiza.
