Robbers bomb ATM in Soweto

Gauteng has been rocked by the second heist attempt in the space of six hours following a foiled cash heist in Soweto on Thursday.

Six suspects have been arrested and a security guard injured in the incident.
According to police spokesperson, Vishnu Naidoo, officers nabbed the suspects shortly after they blew up an ATM.

“Suspects attempted to rob an ATM by using explosives. As a result of this, six suspects were arrested, and no money was taken.”
G4S Cash Solutions says the suspects attacked staff while they were loading money into the ATM.

The spokesperson for the transit company, Wendy Hardy says the guard had to abandon the carrier at the scene.
“During the attack a G4S security officer was wounded, but he is in a stable condition and receiving treatment in hospital.”
Earlier on Thursday, a group of armed men attempted to rob a cash-in-transit van in Boksburg.
