Rubber bullets fly in Olievenhoutbosch
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
Police and angry residents have clashed in Olievenhoutbosch during a protest over crime, poor service delivery and largescale corruption in the awarding of RDP houses.
Residents have taken to the streets blocking the R55.
They claim the local councillor is selling RDP houses while hundreds of residents have been waiting for years for decent housing in the area.
A memorandum of their grievances has been handed over to government officials, but residents continue to protest.
Tensions mounted as a group of protesters went to RDP houses demanding to see proof of residence before gathering at the councillor's house.
Police have been deployed to maintain peace in the area.
Officers have fired rubber bullets, tear gas and stun grenades to disperse the crowd.
