SA records another 288 Covid-related deaths

South Africa has recorded 2 781 new Covid-19 cases, according to the latest statistics released by the Department of Health on Friday evening.
This brings the country’s total cases to 1 487 681.
A total of 288 new deaths were reported, with most of the new fatalities from Gauteng.
The province recorded 166 deaths.
"Eastern Cape 26, Free State 24, Gauteng 166, KwaZulu Natal 23, Limpopo four, Mpumalanga 16, Northern Cape seven and Western Cape 22, which brings the total to 47 670 deaths," Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said in the statement.
"We convey our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the health care workers who treated the deceased patients."
The country’s recovery rate stands at 93%.
