SA records over eleven thousand new cases

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) has reported 11 535 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours leading up to Thursday evening.
The institute says the latest increase represents a 22.4% positivity rate.
Gauteng continues to account for the majority of the new cases and reported 8 280 new infections.
“The majority of new cases today are from Gauteng (72%), followed by Western Cape (6%). KwaZulu-Natal accounted for 5%. Limpopo, Mpumalanga and North West each accounted for 4% respectively; Free State and Eastern Cape each accounted for 2%. Northern Cape accounted for 1% of today’s new,” said the NICD in a statement.
An additional 44 Covid-19 related deaths have been reported, bringing total fatalities to 89 915.
The number of people admitted to the hospital has also seen a sharp increase during the latest 24-hour cycle, with 274 new admissions.
There are currently 2 904 people receiving treatment for coronavirus related complications in both public and private health facilities.
On the vaccine front, 153 240 vaccines were administered on Thursday
