SA reports a day of high Covid-19 deaths, yet again

Statistics released by Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize shows that Covid-19 deaths have significantly increased over the latest reporting period.
It comes as South Africa remains in shock and mourning over the death of Minister in the Presidency, Jackson Mthembu, to Covid-19 on Thursday.
A further 647 Covid-19 related deaths were recorded in the country, with KwaZulu-Natal accounting for the most deaths at 154.
The Eastern Cape has recorded 139 fatalities, while the Western has recorded 137 deaths.

In Gauteng, a further 93 deaths were recorded, followed by the North West at 55, Limpopo at 27, Mpumalanga and 17 and the Northern Cape with 8 fatalities.
This brings the cumulative number of deaths in the country to 39 501.
South Africa’s cumulative Covid-19 cases now stand at 1 380 807.
The recovery rate has increased to 85.7%, with government estimating that the largest part of the country has now moved over the peak of the second wave.
