SA working towards a visa-free Africa: Ramaphosa

Ramaphosa was delivering the closing address at the Africa Travel Indaba and said the amount of red tape faced by tourists visiting SA will be cut down.

President Cyril Ramaphosa says  South-Africa's visa regulations have to be radically overhauled in order to promote tourism. 


Ramaphosa was delivering the closing address at the Africa Travel Indaba and said the amount of red tape faced by tourists visiting SA will be cut down. 


"As South-Africa, we are committed to working towards the AU gaol of visa-free African travel," he said.  "We are in the process of overhauling in a very radical way our Visa dispensation."


Ramaphosa said that the Chinese President flagged the issue of crime in South Africa as a deterrent for tourists. 


"We have to deal with crime and counter the perception that Africa is an unsafe tourist destination," said Ramaphosa. "Resources will be devoted to combatting crime, particularly against tourists."
