SABC journalists head to Labour Court
Updated | By Silindelo Masikane
The public broadcaster will come under the spotlight once again on Thursday, this time in the Labour Court.

Trade union Solidarity will on Thursday request the Labour Court to set aside the decision to dismiss four of the eight SABC journalists, who were dismissed for challenging the ban on the broadcast of violent protests. The other journalists’ cases are being handled by their own trade unions and legal teams.
It remained to seen if yesterday’s turn-around by the SABC in the High Court, which effectively reversed its controversial editorial policy, would have an influence on the Labour Court court proceedings.
Trade union Solidarity was also requested the court to revoke the disciplinary process in its entirety, pending the rulings given in other legal processes against the SABC’s COO's Hlaudi Motsoeneng.

The union was representing Foeta Krige, Suna Venter, Krivani Pillay and Jacques Steenkamp.
Solidarity's Johan Kruger believed the court interdict obtained by the Helen Suzman Foundation had strengthened their case.
Following their axing, the media fraternity launched a fundraiser for the SABC8, with over R300 000 raised overnight.
