SACAA: CemAir can appeal re-suspension
Updated | By Gaopalelwe Phalaetsile
The South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) says CemAir can appeal its decision to re-suspend the airline’s operations.
SACAA suspended the airline's operation with immediate effect on Friday afternoon - citing maintenance irregularities.
“We have serious concerns which we feel will affect safety and they are related to the maintenance controls that the airline is implementing on their fleet. They were not able to prove to us that the way they maintaining their aircrafts can guarantee the lives of the people they are flying, including the crew and the people on the ground,” says spokesperson Phindile Gwebu.
In December, the SACAA grounded eight of CemAir's aircrafts.

Gwebu says after many interactions with CemAir and an assessment of the airline’s fleet, the airline was unable to prove that its entire fleet is airworthy.
She says the airline reserves the right to appeal the decision.
“They can appeal the decision of SACAA with the director and they can do that within 30 days. The director will consider their application and assess whether the decision to suspend its operation was fair.“
