SAFTU to march against outsourcing
Updated | By Sinethemba Madolo
The South African Federation of Trade Unions (Saftu) are marching on Thursday in protest against outsourcing and the use of casual workers in the public and private sectors.
Saftu spokesperson, Patrick Craven, said they will be handing a memorandum to the Gauteng Premier David Makhura.
Craven said demands include that employers in the public service hire staff directly, provide medical schemes and provident funds and pay a minimum wage of R10 000 a month.
"This doesn't apply to only to the public sector, but we are taking up abuses with the private sector as well."
Craven said that the private sector needs to stop the outsourcing of workers, turning permanent jobs to casual and full time to part time.
"The process is undermining people’s living standards and their basic rights as workers.”
Craven called on Makhura to keep to his promise that all work in Gauteng will be in-sourced by December.
