SAHRC to drag FFPlus leader to court over racist video
Updated | By Lulutho Mkosi
The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) is set to take Limpopo Freedom Front leader Marcelle Maritz to Equality Court over a racist video.
In the video Maritz is allegedly heard using the k-word during a conversation filmed on a cell phone.
The commission’s Victor Mavhidula believes they have no choice but to take Maritz to court since she is a repeat offender.
“As much as we understand that this is a video or a private conversation, or whatever it was, the fact of the matter is we all know that we are not allowed to use the k-word.”
Meanwhile, Freedom Front Plus leader Pieter Groenewald maintains that it is up to the Equality Court to decide whether Maritz is guilty of hate speech.
