SAHRC to visit Tembisa Hospital over the death of 10 babies
Updated | By Lulutho Mkosi
The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) visits the Tembisa Hospital today, following the death of 10 babies in November and December.

The babies died from an outbreak of an antibiotic resistant bacteria, dubbed Carbapenem-Resistant Enterobacterales (CRE), at the hospital's neonatal unit.
Gauteng health confirmed last week that there were 17 cases.

The remaining seven babies were receiving treatment at other facilities.
The organism believed to have caused the deaths is Klebsiella pneumoniae.
SAHRC legal head, Buang Jones, says legal action can only be determined once the meeting with management has been concluded.
"The Commission's visit today is to establish the circumstances that led to the death of the babies at the hospital."
"We have confirmed with the hospital that there will be a meeting with the hospital management," says Jones.
