SANDF, police searching for missing trainee

The South African National Defence Force has approached the police in Oudtshoorn following the disappearance of a trainee.
The trainee, who failed to pitch up during roll call last week, is thought to have left the army base with his rifle.
He was part of a team of 28 soldiers undergoing a 10-week advanced physical and psychological training.
“During roll call, he was discovered to be missing, and upon investigation, it came to light that the riffle assigned to him was also missing. They started searching the whole base and couldn’t find him. They then opened a case at the Oudtshoorn police station,” said SANDF spokesperson Siphiwe Dlamini.
Dlamini says the reports that the trainee left due to the intensity of the training are untrue.
Western Cape police say investigations into the disappearance of the SANDF trainee are ongoing.
