SAPS ready for upcoming election
Updated | By Maryke Vermaak
The South African Police Service is geared up and ready for the upcoming municipal elections.
Acting Police Commissioner Khomotso Phahlane briefed media today on the state of readiness for next month's election.
Phahlane said they have identified various hot spots across the country and will have a heightened police presence in those areas, even though he refused to divulge their names.
He also said no weapons will be allowed at voting stations and no intimidation will be tolerated.
He said SAPS would be supported by the SANDF on a logistical level only, and they do not foresee the need for them to be deployed.
Phahlane urged South Africans to behave responsibly.
