SAPS say more arrests possible for AKA, Tibz murders

KwaZulu-Natal Police say they have not ruled out the possibility of more arrests in their investigation into the murders of rapper Kiernan "AKA" Forbes and his friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane.

On Tuesday evening, the SAPS top brass held a media briefing where they announced that six suspects had been arrested in connection to the murder.

The suspects were arrested at different intervals, and the police kept mum to not raise any alarm for other possible suspects that they were tailing.

Police said AKA was followed by the hitmen from the airport in Durban to the Hilton Hotel, then to Wish restaurant on Florida Road, where he had his last meal before he was assassinated on February 10 last year.

KZN police chief Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi said there is no doubt the rapper was the target of a hit.

“Of the six, we have someone that coordinated the whole operation, and that’s a person who mobilised all these resources and people, that’s a person who paid them after the job. So, whether he got an instruction from elsewhere, we cannot say because we don’t have that evidence.

“He is the one that was followed from the airport, followed to the hotel and was spotted inside the restaurant, and the plan was not to shoot him the manner they did. They were going to shoot him inside the vehicle, but because he stood longer outside greeting his friend, those hitmen did not want to wait. That’s why they came for him. The second victim, it was by coincidence that he was shot as I’m sure you realise the second shooter was quite a distance away from him when he got shot.”

The six suspects are set to appear in court on Thursday.
