Suspended South African Revenue Service (Sars) commissioner Tom Moyane has been served with disciplinary charges.
The Presidency has confirmed the charges are related to alleged misconduct in violation of his duties and responsibilities in terms of the SARS Act, the Finance Management Act and the SARS Code of Conduct.
Moyane was suspended in March due to concerns over his leadership at SARS and his handling of the investigation into top official Jonas Makwakwa.
Retired Constitutional Court Judge Kate O'Regan will preside over the inquiry.

O'Regan presided over the Khayelitsha Commission of inquiry into allegations of police inefficiency.
Presidential Spokesperson Khusela Diko says a separate inquiry will be established into the broader issues affecting the tax organisation.
"A separate process through the establishment of a commission of inquiry will focus on tax administrative issues like VAT refunds and shortfalls in revenue in the past two financial years, More details on the commission of Inquiry will be published shortly."
Diko says Moyane's disciplinary inquiry will be done in writing to ensure procedural fairness and a speedy process.
