SA's Covid-19 death toll breaches 89 000

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) has reported a further 62 Covid-19 related deaths, bringing the total of fatalities to 89 049.
A total of 472 new Covid-19 cases have been reported over the latest 24-hour period until Wednesday evening.
This brings the country’s total laboratory-confirmed cases to 2 920 581.
The increase represents a 1.4% positivity rate.
Gauteng recorded 103 new infections, making it the province with the highest number of new cases.
The province is followed by Western Cape which recorded 88 new Covid-19 cases.
An additional 29 new people have been admitted to public and private health facilities in the past 24 hours.
There are currently 3 993 people admitted for treatment.
On the vaccine front, 191 264 Covid-19 vaccines were administered in the last 24 hours.
