SA's GDP grows by 2% in third quarter

Statistics South Africa has announced that the gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 2% in the third quarter of 2017.

Statistician General Risenga Maluleke has announced that the GDP grew by 2.0%.
Maluleke says the largest positive contributors to growth were the agriculture, forestry and fishery industries.
"These industries increased by 44.2% in the third quarter and contributed 0.9 of a percentage point to GDP growth. The mining and quarrying industry increased by 6.6%, and contributed 0.5 of a percentage point to GDP growth."

Maluleke also confirmed that the expenditure on the GDP increased by 2.1%.
"Household final consumption expenditure increased by 2.6% in the third quarter of 2017, contributing 1.6 percentage points to total growth. Government's final consumption expenditure decreased by 0.5%, contributing -0.1 of a percentage point," says Maluleke.
