Sassa employees down tools

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) employees affiliated to the National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (Nehawu) embarked on a national strike on Wednesday.
In 2014, the Constitutional Court found the contract between CIP and Sassa to be invalid.
Nehawu members are calling for the suspension of the biometric enrolment of beneficiaries.
"It is susceptible to hackers and has led to the late payment of beneficiaries," says Nehawu's spokesperson, Khaya Xaba.
The union is expected to hold an urgent meeting with the Social Development Minister, Susan Shabangu on Wednesday afternoon.
Xaba says the meeting with Shabangu is aimed at resolving the issues facing the Sassa employees at Sassa.
