Schabir Shaik remains 'terminally-ill'

President Jacob Zuma's former financial advisor Schabir Shaik is still terminally-ill.

That's according to justice minister Michael Masutha's written reply to a question from the Democratic Alliance (DA).

Shaik was released on parole eight years ago.

Masutha says Shaik's condition remains terminal and that his health was last checked by a Department of Correctional Services official before his release in March 2009.

Shaik had been sentenced to 15 years in jail after being convicted of paying Zuma a bribe.

But only served two years and four months in jail before being released on the grounds that he was near death.

He spent most of his time behind bars in a prison hospital.

Masutha says the convicted fraudster has complied with the conditions of his medical parole.

His parole conditions allow him to attend his son's school events, work, do a sport and ask for permission if he wishes to leave his home province.
