Search for missing 3-year-old resumes

The search for a missing three-year-old girl from Alexandra, Everlate Chauke is set to continue along the banks of the Jukskei River today.

Chauke was swept away in flood water following a massive storm on Wednesday.


Her aunt told Jacaranda FM News that the family is devastated after little Everlate was yanked from her father's arms while seeking refuge in a tree after the Jukskei river burst its banks.


Everlate, or Eva as she was affectionately known, lived with her family along the banks of the Jukskei River in Alexandra.

Flash floods saw the river burst its banks and water rising several meters, destroying several homes in the process.


Shadrack Chauke got into a tree to escape the rising water but somehow they fell back into the water where after the little girl was swept away.

The distraught family remained in the area yesterday, hoping that search and rescue workers are able to find their little girl.


Members of the media were told that Shadrack wasn't coping with what had happened and is blaming himself.


Rescue efforts will resume this morning, if weather conditions allow teams to enter the river.
