Search for survivors in Mossel Bay plane crash

Police in the Southern Cape says the wreckage of a plane which disappeared on Thursday morning has been found.

“The wreckage has been located at this moment and time the weather conditions are hampering efforts to recovering the plane or to find any survivors,” police spokesperson Malcom Potjie says.


 


Three crew members are presumed to be dead after their plane crashed in a mountainous area near Mossel Bay.


 


The aircraft took off from George Airport and the air traffic control tower could not make contact ten minutes after take-off.

The plane, belonging to the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA), was used for calibration of airport systems.


 


“We have to use helicopters and the weather. It’s already getting dark, it not permitting (the use of helicopters) at all at this stage,” said Potjie.
