Sentencing in Sithole case resumes
Updated | By Maryke Vermaak
The men convicted of murdering Mozambican national Emmanuel Sithole are expected to be sentenced in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on Monday.
Sithole's murder made headline news during xenophobic attacks in Alexandra in 2015 when his attack and murder was captured by a local photographer and featured on the front page of several newspapers.
Mthinta Bhengu and Sifundi Mzimzela appeared in court on Friday for arguments in mitigation and in aggravation of sentence.
They were both convicted for Sithole's murder and their co-accused, who was a minor at the time, was convicted of theft and assault.
The defence has argued that the minimum sentence must be handed down, but the State maintained that only a hefty sentence for the two convicted murderers would.
