Shiraaz Mohammed back in the country: family statement

South African photojournalist, Shiraaz Mohammed, who was kidnapped in Syria almost three years ago, is back in the country.
This is according to a family statement issued on Saturday, which simply says: 'Shiraaz Mohammed is back in the country.
"Owing to his recent circumstances, he and our family are requesting that we be given some space
"In due course and soon, we will issue a statement and engage with the media."
In December, it emerged that Mohammed had managed to escape and flee from his captors.

At the time, Mohamed’s ex-wife, Shirley Brijlal, told Jacaranda FM News it had been an emotional roller-coaster for them to hear his voice again.
“It took me a few moments to understand what was happening," said an emotion Brijlal.
