Sisisi Tolashe elected ANC Women's League president

The Eastern Cape's Sisisi Tolashe has been elected the new president of the ANC Women's League at its national conference over the weekend.

Tolashe beat former leader Bathabile Dlamini and KwaZulu-Natal's Thembeka Mchunu to the top position.


She received a whopping 1729 voted from the 3000 delegates, while Mchunu only received 1038 votes and Dlamini a mere 170.


The league was disbanded last year after it failed to hold its conference under the leadership of Bathabile Dlamini.


Dlamini was also convicted of perjury in March last year after the Constitutional Court found she had lied under oath during the 2018 inquiry into the grants payment debacle at the South African Social Security Agency.


The results were announced on Sunday evening.


Tolashe, who is the fomer mayor of Enoch Mgijima Municipality joined Ramaphosa's cabinet as Deputy Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities after this's year's reshuffle.


Lungi Gcabashe has been elected as deputy president, while Nokuthula Nqaba has been elected the new secretary-general of the league.


Former minister of communication Dina Pule has been elected the new deputy secretary-general while Free State MEC for Community Safety, Roads and Transport, Maqueen Letsoha-Mathae was elected treasurer-general.
