Mabuza says the bakkie had three occupants - the driver, his wife and their child.
"Only the driver and the wife were critically injured, the child was not injured," says Mabuza.
Mabuza says there are indications that one vehicle was on the wrong side of the road.
"It means that the driver lost control, or he was distracted or disturbed, but the investigation will reveal the cause of tha accident, because we need to talk to the survivors."
