Solidarity: Eskom's management bloated with corruption
Updated | By Neo Motloung
Trade union Solidarity welcomes the decision by the Eskom board to retrench members of its top-level management.

However, Solidarity argues that retrenching 20 managers at the embattled state power utility is not enough.
Solidarity's Chief Executive, Dirk Hermann, says Eskom management bloated from 80 to about 200 managers over the last five years.
"There are too many managers at Eskom, and that is the problem," says Hermann.
He believes the bloated management structure birthed breeding grounds for corruption in the State Owned Enterprise (SOE).
"The problem is a structure of management in Eskom that is totally ineffective."
Eskom announced on Wednesday that it would start legal processes to cut top level management.

The board urges despite efforts to curb expenditure at the power utility, operating costs continue to increase "dramatically while output has remained largely unchanged."
