According to the university's Willa de Ruyter, a fire was reported last night but it is not clear exactly what has been set alight and by whom.

"We are aware of the fire that was reported but it seems that it was an isolated incident," she says.

She adds that they are not aware of any grievances by students and that there has been continuous engagement between students and management on an almost weekly basis.

"We are constantly engaging with any students who might have any issues that they feel management should address," De Ruyter says.

De Ruyter adds that the situation is fluid and can change at any moment, but that, for now, classes will continue.

"Security personnel at the main gate will be constantly updated and should management decide to suspend classes, students and lecturers will be informed,' she says.

The motive behind the fires will be investigated.

"We will get to the bottom of this very quickly," she says.
