Police arrested one suspect in Tembisa on Wednesday following an attempted cash-in-transit heist in the area.
Gauteng police spokesperson Mavela Masondo says an unknown number of suspects rammed into a cash-in-transit vehicle on Wednesday morning.
The arrested suspect was injured after both vehicles caught fire.
Masondo says a search is underway for his accomplices.
"The suspects fired shots at the security guards, injuring one of them. Police responded swiftly, and the suspects fled the scene without taking any cash.
"Soon after the incident, police officers from SAPS and Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department went searching for the suspects. A Mercedes Benz believed to have been used during the commission of a crime was found abandoned on the streets of Tembisa with a rifle inside, and the second Mercedes Benz, also believed to have been used in the commission of the attempted cash-in-transit robbery, was found inside one of the yards in Tembisa.”
Masondo says one of the cars is believed to have been hijacked in Bedfordview.
