Suspect arrested for Soweto teen’s murder, rape

Gauteng police have arrested a suspect in connection with the rape and murder of 14-year-old Simphiwe Sibeko.
The teen’s body was found in an open field on Thursday, a day after she was last seen going to a nearby shop.

Gauteng police spokesperson Kay Makhubela says the 22-year-old suspect was arrested on Monday evening.
“Police can confirm that a 22-year-old man was arrested last night who was allegedly invoved in the killing of a 14-year-old in Dobsonville after she was reported missing and found killed in eMndeni.
“So far we are still searching for the other suspects who were also involved in the incident and we are still calling for the community to call and give in information so we are able to trace and arrest the suspects.“
Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi said on Monday that the provincial government will foot the bill for Sibeko’s funeral and will hold a memorial after the conclusion of the national lockdown.
Lesufi visited the home of the slain teen in Dobsonville on Monday.
