Suspect killed, two injured in police shootout

One suspect was shot and killed and two others injured during a shootout with police in Naturena, in the south of Johannesburg on Tuesday morning.
Police spokesperson Mavela Masondo says officers were patrolling the N12 freeway when they spotted two suspicious cars.
"A high speed chase ensued after the drivers failed to stop on the police's signal, but instead accelerated and started shooting at the police.

"The suspects driving the Ford Ranger were cornered in Naturena after they lost control of the car. One suspect was fatally shot and two suspects were injured and taken to hospital under police guard."
Masondo says none of the police officers were injured.
"Preliminary investigation revealed that the car driven by the suspects was reported stolen in Hillbrow last month."
A case of attempted murder, possession of unlicensed firearms and possession of suspected stolen vehicle have been opened.
