Suspect nabbed for impersonating a police officer

A 59-year-old man has been
arrested in Johannesburg for impersonating a police officer.

Police spokesperson Xoli Mbele says the man was spotted by police during a routine patrol in the CBD on Thursday and caught in possession of a firearm and live ammunition.
Mbele says a preliminary investigation showed that the firearm belonged to a 52-year-old woman from Tsakane.
He says, should be the gun not be reported stolen or missing within 24 hours, the woman will also be charged with negligence and could have her firearm licence revoked.

Police also recovered an appointment certificate that belongs to a police captain.
Investigations are underway to determine how the man got a hold of the certificate.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates Court on Friday.
