Team SA is back on home soil

South Africa's Olympic athletes received a hero's welcome at the O.R. Tambo International Airport on Tuesday morning.

Government officials, SASCOC bosses, fans and members of various sporting codes flooded the arrival hall of O.R. Tambo to greet the athletes.


Miss South Africa, Ntandoyenkosi Kunene was also among the delegates who attended the homecoming.


The Gauteng Department MEC of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Faith Mazibuko welcomed the athletes back home followed by the official welcoming by Sports Minister, Fikile Mbalula.

"We welcome home these bunch of winners! We like winners, not a bunch of.....losers!" Mbalula said.

He also quoted the late and great, Nelson Mandela, saying his legacy lives on.


Mbalula also singled out swimmers, Cameron van der Burgh, Chad Le Clos, Sunette Viljoen as well as the Sevens Rugby team.
