The protests over high municipal tariffs have already claimed the lives of four people.
Two people were killed following clashes with police officers while two people died in a gas explosion when they attempted to bomb an ATM amid the protests.
"A sense of calmness can be seen in Tembisa after municipal buildings were set alight and also having fatalities, there are no signs of protest this morning although roads are still barricaded with rocks,” said the metro police’s spokesperson Kelebogile Thepa on Monday morning.
Ekurhuleni Mayor Tania Campbell visited Tembisa on Monday and promised to address residents' concerns at a mass meeting planned at Mehlareng Stadium on Friday.
Campbell was accused of playing politics after she failed to attend a community meeting on Friday to discuss residents’ grievances.
