Thabo Mbeki addresses racism in SA
Updated | By Samkele Maseko
Former president Thabo Mbeki said South Africa is not making the necessary progress in nation building.
He's delivered the keynote address at the SA Human Rights Commission's national conference on 20 years of democracy.
Mbeki added that South Africa is a country of two nations.
Mbeki said there was a small group of white people who is mostly economically prosperous and a black majority who is mired in economic inequality, poverty and unemployment.
"It is obvious that the strenuous efforts our country has taken over two decades to eradicate the legacy of colonial and apartheid racism have not succeeded as well and as fast as we and the majority of our population expected," Mbeki said.
