Defence Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqaku has announced plans to award the late Dr Thandi Ndlovu with a service medal from the South African National Defence Force (SANDF).
Mapisa-Nqaku was speaking at Ndlovu's funeral service on Friday where she was lauded for her role in the anti-apartheid struggle.
She was an activist and medical doctor turned businesswoman.
"She was a colonel in reserve force of the South African Military Health Services which is one of the arms of services in the National Defence Force," says Mapisa-Nqaku.
"Plans were underway to award her medals for her service."
The construction tycoon was honoured with a special official provincial funeral at the House of Treasure Ministries, south of Johannesburg.
Ndlovu lost her life in a car crash in Rustenburg on Saturday.
