Thousands register on first day of online school application
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
The Gauteng Education Department has managed to capture over 97 000 online applications for grades one and eight for 2018 on the first day of registration.
Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi and Premier David Makhura launched the system in Orange Farm on Tuesday morning.
Applications will run until 12 June.
Scores of parents have successfully registered their children online in stark contrast to the system's introduction last year.
However, there have been some glitches, leaving desperate parents frustrated.
Lesufi says the department is attending to the issues.
"As long as parents can log in and pick their particular schools, we will be in a position to follow up on all inquiries.
Makhura urged parents to avoid disappointment by applying as soon as possible.
"We don't want to sit with 30 000 learners who are not placed in January, because that creates anxiety for the system and for parents. It makes it difficult for us to plan," said Makhura.
