The trio were nabbed on Wednesday evening with the cables already loaded onto a truck at a building in Pretoria West.

The city’s MMC for Community Safety Grandi Theunissen says 1 200 metres of cable were recovered and booked in at Hercules police station.

"The cables were clearly marked, indicating that they belonged to the City of Tshwane and had previously been delivered to the Soshanguve depot.

"Once the police investigation is concluded, the cables will be returned to the city to be used for critical service delivery. The Cable Theft Unit is a small, but dedicated TMPD unit that works around the clock to fight the scourge of cable theft."
