Transnet launches investigation into #Durbanfire
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Transnet says its put together its own team to probe the cause of the massive fire at its Rossburgh warehouse in Durban.
It has emerged that the state-owned entity owns the South Coast Road facility which has been on fire since Friday morning.
Late yesterday, eThekwini Disaster Management said firefighting crews had successfully separated the hot zone from the hay bales and ammonium in the unaffected part of the warehouse.
Transnet's Molatwane Likhethe says they are relieved the inferno has been contained to the already destroyed section of the warehouse.
Likhethe says they can't yet give an estimate of the damage.
"As we're talking, Transnet has put together a team of investigators to get to the bottom of the incident itself. It's difficult right now to say exactly what happened. It is our belief that once the investigation has been concluded - we will be able to know what caused the fire and the extent of the damage as well," he said.
Likhethe has confirmed that a Transnet worker who was hurt on Friday after the blaze broke out has been discharged from hospital.
