Tshwane mayor reflects on his first 100 days in office

The DA's Solly Msimanga has reflected on his first 100 days since taking office as the Executive Mayor of the City of Tshwane, saying the work to turn the capital city around has only just begun.

Addressing members of the media in Pretoria this morning, Msimanga said although progress has been made there is still a great deal of work to be done by his administration.

"This 100 days commemoration was set up deliberately to coincide with the signing ceremony of performance agreement contracts of my Members of the Mayoral Committee," he said.

Msimanga said that most of the work in and around the city is related to resolving labour related issues, in order to create an environment where public office bearers can create better services to the people of Tshwane.

"Appreciating that we inherited what can only be described as a 'mess'. With unlawful contracts and costly projects that now have to be completed and some of them undone before completion is in our sights," Msimanga said.

Msimanga also touched on the delivery of houses in the city, saying that his administration was able to handover houses in Mamelodi and Olivenhoutbosch.

"Top structures and construction of bulk sewer were launched in Kudube Unit 9 in Region 2 while the city has completed phase 1 of 818 further RDP houses," Msimanga said.
