Tshwane parks some buses due to diesel shortage
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
Tshwane says its bus service operations will be reduced due to a diesel shortage at the city’s bus depots.
The services will be reduced effective from Wednesday until further notice.
"The city is aware that the decision to reduce operations will have a negative impact on our customers’ commuting plans; however, it was paramount that we avoid a total stoppage of operations, especially now that schools have resumed their second quarter,” said spokesperson Lindela Mashigo.
"The city is hopeful that the challenges will be resolved soonest to ensure that services return to normal. We acknowledge that our valued commuters will be adversely affected by the reduced operations, and we apologise for this inconvenience."
This is not the first time the cash-strapped city has experienced fuel shortages, with buses unable to leave the depots in September and January due to a lack of diesel.
